Programme Note

"Teems of times and happy returns. The seim anew. Ordovico or viricordo."
Viricordo takes its title from James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. This compound word, derived from the Italian 'vi ricordo' ('I remind you'), refers to Giambattista Vico's ricorso philosophy, whereby the progress of civilisation is viewed as an ever-repeating cycle of historical ages through which societies develop. As with the structure of Finnegans Wake as a whole, time in Viricordo is conceived as a patchwork of nested cycles through which the arrow of time irrevocably points.
